My engine will be running fine, and then for a split second (perhaps 1/2 a second or so), it will cut out (you won't hear it running) and the car will jerk like you have slammed on the brakes. So far, it happens if I am turning a corner and accelerating, and just now tonight it has started if I am accelerating just going forward. The car died on me while I was going down the road @ 50 mph. Any ideas? Yesterday there was a ker-chunk noise that sounded like it was coming from the rear. It happened twice in succession, and that is the last I have heard of it. Oh, yeah, and when the car died on the road, it wouldn't start right after. I waited half a minute and tried again and it started right up. But the entire time it was running it was pulling a Code 33 (something having to do with the MAF?????).
Any help is appreciated. I was driving later tonight and it seemed fine. I have no clue. Thanks!

Code 33: MAP sensor or MAF sensor depending on engine.

To me it sounds more like the MAF.

not sure, but the MAF might have gone bad. I've heard that a bad MAF can cause the engine to die out. You also might want to check the connection and make sure that it's not a little loose. or take a look at the MAF and make sure it looks normal, no big pieces of paper, or debris is lodge on the screen.

 

When mine went out the first time it would cause the car to fall on it's nose then take off agian.If you are cruising about 20mph it would be fine.Anytime I would accelerate it would fall on it's face.
Try this....start your car....take a screw driver(the handle end)and tap the MAF were the wire connection is.Not to hard though,they are made of light plastic and could easily crack.If the engine stumbles or dies there is a 90% chance the MAF is on its way to the scrap yard in the sky.

These MAF sensor's are expensive.I got a reman'd MAF for $50(plus my old one)and it has been fine for 2 years now.

When mine died, I went to Pep Boys... the reman'd one had some weird heat sink poking up in the middle that my stocker didn't have. So I took it back, and checked the part #'s- the guy's computer said it was the right one.

I didn't like the heat sink deal, so I got my $$ back, and found the right looking one at Strauss Auto, for $5 more.
