3.73's are in!

Great mod, but expensive! My car has some low end grunt now and it seems to acclerate faster to. Total was about 600 bucks OUCH! I think my next mod is going to be getting another set of 3.1 heads and doing some gasket matching and cleaning up the valve guide boss, and then getting a 3 angle valve job done. I might as well add 1.52 roller rockers and gasket match the upper and lower plenum and the intake manifold.

can u tell me why all u guys are doing 1.52? the stock ratio (info from gm resto guide) was a 1.51 ratio, therefore increasing ur ratio .1...why waste the money when 1.6's are 10 bucks more? Im installing 1.6's tomorrow...

Tell us how it goes, Graeme, I've been told the 1.6's are too high of a ratio for the V6, but if you're the guinea pig, have a blast, and tell us what it does. Are you running a higher lift cam with them?

I installed 1.6 rockers last spring on my 92 3.1L, all I can say about them is that I have noticed a significant increase in torque and it drives a hell of a lot better at 75 on the highway, and of of course with the increase of torque the car doesn't struggle going up hills like it did before. The cam I am using is the Crane CompuCam 2030 kit.

I've been told the 1.6's are too much for the V6 to handle. Are you running a higher lift cam with those? Let us know how it goes...

I got a real good computer, barely a year old, and I have problems with the message not showing all the time! Just know that if you click on Submit Reply, 98% of the time it goes through...so I've found.

3.1, Congrats! Damn, you're moving along fast with all the in-depth mods, eh? Let us know when you get a new 1/4 time! Do you still have the stock size tires in the back?

Tom, yes I still have the stock tire height (26inches diameter on my car). How do you like your 3.73's? I love mine, and all the crap alot of people say about drivability is not true if you have an AOD tranny 2400 Rpms at 65 doesnt sound or feel undriveable to me. The car pulls so much better down low now, before it seemed that I had to rev up to at least 3500 rpm before the car wouldstart picking up, now I only rev to around 2500-2700 and the take off is quicker and smoother. I was given $500 by someone, so I thought I;d do gears
Grammy I didnt want to use 1.6 rollers because I already have a cam and I wasnt sure whether or not I would need lengthened pushrods and stronger springs because of the dramaticically increased lift with 1.6 rockers, so thats why I was planning on the 1.5's to keep the lift down and maybe free up a few hp because the the friction factor.... and they are cheap

Yeah, I love the gears.. I like how overdrive acts more like a 4th gear now!

For you guys that have the 3.73 rearend.

Doesnt the higher rearend cause speedometer problems? lt would seem to me that going from out 3.42 or what ever we have, would cause some speedometer errors. If you say no, lm curious as to how you tested. Also, any data on gas mileage change?

Thanks
Clayton
