Accel box and MSD coil, and Questions on Pulleys
Yeah, I know it sounds dumb and halfass, but in my research on ignition setups, I found the ultimate IMO is the Accel 300+ box (better technology, smaller size) with the MSD coil (direct replacement). Will this work? How stupid is this idea?
Also, has anyone had charging problems with pulleys? I've been talking about them forever. But there are times where I'm at a stoplight at night, with the lights on, stereo on (not cranked), turn signal on and brakes on, and the voltmeter dips down to like 10 or so. Am I gonna mess something up doing pulleys?

Yeah, I've heard about stuff like that, which is why I'm afraid. Did you notice a decent improvement with the pulleys?
Can anyone help me out with the Accel/MSD question?

Jason, I don't see why the Accel & MSD combo wouldn't work. Both pieces are designed to be part of a multiple discharge ignition system. You could always call Accel's and MSD's tech support, and ask them a loaded question-
To Accel (mrgasket.com): I have an MSD ignition coil, will the 300+ box work with it?
To MSD (msdignition.com): I have an Accel 300+ box, would the MSD coil work?
Why the MSD coil, though? Just curious! Did you know Accel also makes a direct-replacement GM coil, #14001? It's bright yellow, 0.3 ohms primary resistance, 8.8k secondary resistance, 134:1 turns ratio, 48k max volts. Don't know how much, though.
When I went thru the great ignition box debate, I wound up just going with what my gut says. The systems are close enough; it's not like one is horrible compared to the other, so go with your instinct!

I agree Tom, the systems are so close, its a tough call. The only real reasons I like the Accel versus the MSD is because its smaller and because I have Accel wires...I like things that match
Thanks so much for the info on the Accel coil though!!! No, I didn't know that Accel made a direct-replacement coil!! That's why I wanted the MSD...no new holes to drill. But if you're saying Accel makes a direct replacement, then that's what I'l go with. Thanks!!!
Oh BTW Tom, I remember before your MSD box you had the Accel coil and wires. Why the switch? Did you have problems with the Accel? Reliability is important to me...so any info anyone has on the durability of MSD vs Accel is appreciated.

You're welcome! I never had Accel wires, but I did have their remote Computerized Supercoil (140008). I only switched to the MSD coil because I'm like you; I wanted a matched set!
So I've got the MSD 6AL, MSD Blaster SS, MSD 8.5 wires so far.
I still have the Accel cap & rotor, though- MSD doesn't make one.
I had Accel U-groove plugs, but the damn bras terminal that the plug wires clip onto would always unscrew from the plug! It would get loose, and cause a misfire. Then I'd tighten them up, and the same thing would happen again. Once I even took them all out, put them in the vise, and tightened them on HARD with pliers- they still unscrewed. I went back to Pep Boys (where I got them), and discovered that all the U-groove sets had loose terminals! I went back to Splitfires.

I've got pulleys, and was a pizza boy, stop and go traffic constantly, and always had my stereo (with a 200 watt amp and subs) pounding, at night, with my radar detector, headlights, blinker, and pizza cartop light, and never had a charge problem. Oh yeah, manual fan on too. Just don't turn it off for more then 30 seconds with all that stuiff on and pulleys...BAD idea...
