rear end question.
o.k, i feel like i went from knowing a lot to knowing nothing over the past 2 days, it's pretty sad things keep braeaking on my car. But things keep getting fixed too.Anyway, a long time ago there was a post on this board, well before everything went off line for forever, and it was about posi. Someone had said that with posi, while the car's jacked up if you spin the power wheel, the other wheel will spin too. someone on the board did it, and when the power wheel was spun, the other spun in the opposite direction, and people said that was posi. Today, when Midas was putting on my new brakes, i went into the garage and spun my wheel while the car was on the jack, and the other wheel spun in the opposite direction, do i have posi. Also, i was in a bone yard with some friends and we jacked up an old Grand Prix, to open the rear differential, after we opened it, we noticed that the driveshaft connected to one set of gears that then branched off and both wheels were connected to that first set of gears. So, when the driveshaft turned it would always turn both gears, Also, on that axel, with the wheels up, one turned clockwise, and the other did the opposite. So, is there a way to tell posi without using the axel code number, and do i have it?
If you spin either wheel, and the other wheel spins IN THE SAME DIRECTION, you have posi. Otherwise, you have an open differential.
I've got a posi axle sitting on the floor in my garage (for sale, btw) that has posi, and when I spin one side, the other side spins the same direction.
