damn engine- need help

ok, 2 years ago when i bought my car it had this wierd problem where, sometimes when i was decelerating to a stop, my engine would begin to sputter. the rpms would be around 1000 and then they would drop to like 500 then back up to 1200, down to 500, up to 1200 until i came to a complete stop. if i stopped quickly, sometimes it would stall. this happens 90% of the time with a warm engine. i replaced the ISC valve and cleaned inside the TB but it didn't go away. this problem went away like a year ago but now it's back and i can't figure out what the hell is wrong. i'm thinking fuel system now. can anybody help?????

That's weird.. I was going to say "bad MAF!" but I noticed you have the 3.1.

The EGR can stick open and not throw a code. The only time the 32 will throw is when there's a vacuum leak somewhere in the loop between the EGR solenoid, EGR valve, and EGR diag switch.

ok, we got 2 votes for EGR. and TomP, it's pretty stupid how sensors go bad and don't throw codes.when my coolant temp. sensor went bad...no code. OBD is worthless.

Heh, yeah, I know... I love how a MAF sensor can be bad, but the computer doesn't know.

My mechanic once told me his diagnostic computer told him the car's MAF was fine, and he unbolted it as a wild guess. He said the circuit board was melted! Strange how the computer thought it was fine, eh?
