Why does my 2.8 use so much Gas?

And what octane should i use?

Im trying to figure this out, it seems to use a lot! Like, Hummer-ish mileage ! ?

I always use Regular Unleaded, or 87. Never had a problem. But my V6 uses more gas than most because of the mods to it.
