What are some signs of a bad fuel filter??????

Ok it seems to me like sometimes my car has good and bad days. One day it will run hard and pull well. And some days it doesnt. What is causing this? Im thinking it might be my fuel filter but I dont know if its bad or not. How do I check to see if it is? Thanks!

the same thing happened to me earlier this year, something like whenever the car would warm up the crap that built up in the fuel filter would clog the filter and kill the car due to lack of fuel so i would have to kill the car and wait for it too cool down and for the stuff to settle again, till i changed the filter then it stopped dying. You might as well change it, its only a few bucks, not like something you'll regret if it wasnt the problem.

Whats causing this!? Its like some days Ive got raw power from 1,500 RPMs up to 4,500 then some days its OK power from 1,500 to around 3,000 THEN it puts you in the seat. I would love to find out what causes this!
