Question about the 3400 swap

Im about to do the 3400 swap here in about a month or so and ive noticed everyone who did the swap i think used an older 3400 pre OBD2. My question is, is there a problem with using a newer OBD2 3400?

Re: Question about the 3400 swap

Are you talking about using the front wheel drive 3400 or a hybrid or a rear wheel drive 3.4 ?

Re: Question about the 3400 swap

I can't remember who but several members have done this and could help . did you do a search on the topic or look in the v6 threads for the topic ? Maybe one of them will get in here and help you out as there is some fab work to do to get the front wheel drive engine mounted right . If you wanted to get a 3.4 and put it in all you need to do is pull the 2.8 , put your intake setup on the 3.4 w/injectors for the 3.4 , add your sensors and all that . Then you could do a hybrid on the 3.4 with the 3400 topend .

Re: Question about the 3400 swap

Look at what mars did with his. If you want to drop in a 3x00 motor you need to notch the k member or get a tubular k and make motor mounts. A hybrid takes some trickery as well. Don't waste your time with the older stuff if you're going to do this, get a newer 3400 or a 3500.

Re: Question about the 3400 swap

all 3400's were run on OBD2 from the factory but that doesn't matter for this swap, there are hundreds swapped into older OBD1 cars. With a good tune they run just fine and in some cases better than they did from GM.

as mentioned you'll need to notch the K member and make some motor mounts, you'll also need to flip the LIM and UIM around, swap to a RWD timing cover and accessories, play around with the wiring and a few other small things like fuel lines and exhaust setup.
