Wiper arms

Okay, so I've been touching up all the faded/worn trim on my RS. Headlight trim rings, antennae base, wheel center caps, etc.
Got her looking pretty good with one (okay, two) exceptions - the wiper arms.

I found and pulled the locking tab, but I can't get the arm off the stud. Pryed (gently) with a screwdriver, but no avail. Checked Chilton's and it said that a special tool is required (GM J-8966).

Any shadetree tricks to pop the arms, or should I just go buy the tool?

If I remember right you lift the arm, pull the locking tab, and let the arm back down on the tab. The arm will hold the tab in the open position.

This will enable you to pull the arm straight up and rock it using the long side of the arm as leverage.

It is important to lift it straight or it will bind and not come off the spline.

There is a tool but sometimes you have to do with what you got.

I used a door panel tool to remove mine (The kind that looks like a bent screwdriver), Not the window crank removal tool (the one that looks like a spatula).
You can pick these tools up at any local auto store and I think Wal-mart might even carry them.

I was able to pick up the wiper removal tool from O'Reilly's for about $5. It worked great.

Thanks, guys. With the help of a buddy who wasn't as nervous about breaking my RS, we managed to pop the arms off this afternoon. Got them all painted up and I'll reinstall tomorrow.
