but I am not looking to tear down the motor, i am planning on finding a wrecked car and doing the swap next winter! thanks for the help!

ah, a swap. What kinda swap are you looking to do, you could post questions here if you'd like. If you're going v6-v8, i'd recommend a 350, or 383, and to avoid just doing a 305 swap. If you want another v6, try a 3.4L, the block will bolt up directly to the transmission, and then you'll just have to switch all the harnesses, injection, etc, from the top of your 3.1l onto the 3.4. So, what type of swap are you looking at, oh yeah, welcome to the board.
