What would all the rice burners think about a dual turbo quad four in a camaro. It would handle awesome because of the weight reduction and would be very original. What kinda four banger did they have in the mid 80's?

In my personal experience I wouldn't bother with the 2.5l iron duke.. there's a reason. Here there's a message board for the "much ignored" v6.. and there's still NO message board for the l4.. also note, v8fbody.net, v6fbody.net.. no l4fbody.net.. the iron duke was a POS that should never have disgraced our muscle cars.

It might not belong in a Camaro, but hey, a Camaro with a 4 is still a Camaro, correct? And as for the iron dukes being POS's, I think not. They are one of the most reliable engines GM made. My friend's 85 S-10 has over 300k miles on it, and the only thing he has ever replaced on it is the starter and the alternator (well, plus plugs and such for tune-ups). But the engine runs incredible and it is reliable. My 89 2.8L broke down more than his truck did (note: my engine had issues, so don't flame me for that comment!!!!! ).

the iron duke was a great engine, for it's size, and did a farely good job of powering out heavy cars. It was reliable. And in 1983 Pontiac was showing off a 2.5L that was making 275hp, they were designed and are still used as race engines.

The 2.5 TBI was a damn good engine. We had an '85 Calais for 120k miles and never did one thing to it, and I learned to drive on an '88 Skylark 2.5 with 210k miles, running perfect

And yes, originally there were plans to turbo the 2.5 for Fiero use, as well as some FWD platforms. The GMPP catalog still has performance parts for these motors for racing apps!

Is the Iron Duke still in production? My uncle just purchased a '90 Calais 2.5 & if it's the same engine I'm impressed that thing is PEPPY could probly take on my car (he was told by a GM Mechanic that it had 165 horse stock!!!)
