power loss

I've got an 87 SC 2.8l and when I rev the engine it has a drizzly sound with a sort of ticking and doesnt have good throttle responce. I just put in k&n air filters, and threw in rapidfire plugs, but it didnt help. Anyone know what the problem could be?

sorry, you have new plugs, I missed that.
but how did the old plugs look like, hope you still have them, check the looking of the plugs, (how they work) check the wires condition.

The old plugs looked horrible, very rusted. After replacing them I thought it would be a very noticable improvement, but its not much better. My wires look okay, but maybe I should replace those? I thought it may have been the gas quality.. but it still does it with 92 octane.

sounds like you got a bad wire that is shorting out (the ticking noise) in the dark to make it easier, watch the wires with the motor running, watching for spark jumping off the wires..

You were right. I saw sparks on a few of the wires right by the metal casing on the end of the plugs. I removed all the metal casings and no more sparks, but now my coil is shorting out it seems. Im gonna replace the coil and wires. Thanks a lot.

I had a similar problem. I had a bad plug wire and it was causing an arc at my coil from the main lead to the neg treminal. The best way to find the is to run engine in a completely dark garage or outside at night.
