Have V6 Water Pump question

Does anyone about how many hours of Shop Labor changign the Water Pump on the 2.8L V6 is? I have a 1984 2.8, carburated and the water pump is dead, it still spins but it sprays out and whines and im not drivign the car until i get it right, so i dont lose my engine (which is still strong.)

Thanks! I know the places out here cost $80 an HOUR, so im considering backyard mechanics.

Does anyone know, so i dont need to speak to the evil shop that charged $190 for a $25 Fuel Pump again? Im sure they would HAPPILY charge me ~$300 for a Water Pump, and im wondering about how long it takes, and whats involved on my engine, to "calculate" cost from a discount guy. Thanks!

And yes, my Water Pump threw up all over a parking lot yesterday. i drove it home after adding water, but im not doing that again.

Re: Have V6 Water Pump question

Imo change it yourself.....I could change one in like half an hour, and half of that is scraping off the old gasket material.....I can pretty much promise you a shop will charge you an arm and a leg for a water pump. Doing it on our cars is mind numbingly easy, buy yourself a haynes or chilton, and borrow a buddy's tools, or even a buddy's help if you know someone that works on their own car at all.
