a sad day indeed.....I have to sell the bird.

I fired her up and the smoke poured out from the exhaust tailpipe. I suspect when the emissions station revved it to 6000 rpm's and held it there for 20-25 seconds, it may have damaged an internal part because the car acted funny since then. I suspect since I just had the heads rebuilt a week ago and news rings in one cylinder , it wasnt totally broken in yet. No one told me they would rev to 6000 and HOLD it forever though! On top of the mechanical trouble the car WONT pas emissions. I have spent 450 dollars in emissions equipment yet they will not grant me a waiver. Now they want to spend 450 more! I;m disgusted with the whole thing so I;m selling it to my grandpa. I will be looking for a 305 or 350 TPI, it doesnt matter to mme which one because since our standards are as strict as CAlifornia now, I really cant modify it, since the 305 and 350 are somewhat about the same power ratings it I'll get what I can find. I will miss the car, since I put so much work and time into it, Good luck to the rest of you.

It's nothing short of a d@mn shame. You're a pioneer with some of this V6 stuff. You'll be missed a lot, especially when I can pull away from your 8 with my 6 next spring at the track.

Reno always starting trouble, j.k. 3.1, sorry to hear man. I've heard horror stories about Missouri emmesions standards, and the dyno testing, actually hurting cars. Is there anything that you can do to have them fix the car, such as "Lawsuit" maybe not worth it, but i'd sure be pissed if they screwed up my bird. Once again, i'm really sorry to hear, and good luck with a new car, damn, life's a bitch ain't it?

Dude, that's seriously furked up. There's got to be something that you can do if they're the ones who messed up your engine.

on my best runs keep in mind I had bad compression in #5 cylinder. I recently fixed it,and had the heads worked over. It was destined for 15's because it never ran so strong. From a dead stop when I would punch it, it would gve me a very slight adreneline rush(it only lasted about a second, but it was there) and offered good highway passing power, so I was really proud towards my babys last few drives with me as the pilot

ok the final tribute, then I;m done ranting ..........

It could be something as simple as a leaking head gasket.

Perform a leak-down test on the suspect bank and that will tell you what internally is going on inside the engine.

Unless you are so disgusted with it that it just doesn't matter anymore it just might be something simple and affordable to fix.

Man thats really messed up. I think I would have kicked the sh*t out of that dude if he would have redlined my bird that long. I would say the dude was jealous, probably owns some cheap *** 80's ***** that can pass emissions even if it was on fire.

Dude, one question, what did you do to those pacesetters to get them to fit? I´m dropping in a 3.4 and would like headers instead of the stock manifolds.

Are they supposed to do that?!? 6000 RPM, damn! Are you sure he went that high, or did it just sound like that? Maybe you have some legal recourse... although I have a feeling it'll be a "his word against yours" type of deal. I never had my motor rev'd that high by an emissions guy.

Sorry to hear about that! Feel free to visit here every now & then, I'm sure someone will have questions about headers

I'm in agreement with 85f-bird and Tom. There has to be something that can be done about them damaging your engine by over-reving. They should know better. You might want to look into that. And, how did you know they went that high? Do you have a tach and you saw it or did they hook it to a computer? If they hooked it to a computer, do you get a printout that maybe shows RPM in there somewhere? I don't have testing here (yet) so I don't know how it works. Good luck.

i'm lucky, i haven't had to go in for an emmesions test yet, and i hope that they'll get me from one of the smog guns set up on the highway. Anyway, i've been told that they hook the tailpipes up to a sniffer device or something, and a computer reads from a dyno result, So, i wouldn't be surprised if they keep the records and dyno sheet on tab, they would need to so they could pull it up for future reference.

I don't know about other states with stringent emissions, but in MA we have the chassis dynos, and they only get the engines up to 2750 RPM (computer mandated) and 35MPH....

In California, they rev up to 2500 - 3000, for around town driving.

ARE YOU GOING TO TELL ME YOU LET THEM TAKE YOUR CAR WITHOUT YOU WATCHING???????

I certainly hope not.

I caught some guy trying to flunk my Corvette. I let him try for an hour. A$$hole couldn't find a way to flunk it.
I WATCHED HIM LIKE A VULTURE!!!!!!!

I don't know what you can do, if you drove the car away and didn't register a complaint, exactly at that moment.

You have a struggle on your hands now. Sorry to hear, real sorry to hear.

Don't dump your car just yet.

I was like you (blew the engine) & I found my solution $800 later, the 3.4 engine.

I can't wait to smog this puppy. It'll pass so easy.

Don't throw it away, just yet. Think your plan through.

Sorry to hear that, i used to run the emmissions site in MA, we reved em up and held it at 2500 or so, the computer won't log anything above or below a 200 to 400 rpm "window". Not sure what you can do now with driving it away as they can say you did it but get a lawyer and anything is possible.

IF you know of a lawyer friend, you can have him make a call.
That may help, but, kinda doubt it.
Small claims court, is inexpensive, also, too.
But, that's aggrivation.
You CAN CALL the state emission testing division and tell them that this person purposely flunked you and destroyed the engine of your car in the process of doing it.

YET.......
START by going back to the owner of that business and let him know what you plan on doing.

File a grevience about this buisnees with the state motor repair division
Take the business to small claims court

What you will be saying is that you are trying to remove his business license and put him outta business
Or take away his steady income & put him on the ropes and not allow him to do repair business for many years.

BUT

You have to have proof.

DO YOU??

Good luck
