Car is Runnin Rough .. Help
Car is Runnin Rough .. Help
Ok here is the deal. I put in a set of aftermarket fog lights yesterday. Usually when i have the batery unplugged for so long the car runs kinda ****ty for a min or 2 till it adjusts itself i guess. anyways i was drivin last night and i pulled to a stop and the car started idling real rough... it wood sit at 750 then dip a lil and then rev up to bout 1250 and do that over and over. It even stalled on me once. I thot maybe there was too much of a load from the fogs or somtin. but the voltmeter, which as far as i know works perfectly, was steady.i turned em off and still got the same thing. i drove around the rest of the night with em off and it still rough. the car only does this when its in gear. park and neutral it doesnt seem to effect it at all. ALternator and battery are bout a year old id say. This only happens when at a stop or when slowing down from 10mph and lower id say
Did i screw somtin up? or did i jus knock off a connection somewhere?

any trouble codes or ses light? if nothing, try resetting the computer again by either pullin the fuse for a minute or two, or d/c your + batt cable for a few.. if that doesnt take care of it, did you maybe knock something lose or pull a line/wire loose on something when running the wires for the lights?

Yeah, after resetting my computer, I always drive 1/2 hour away from my house at highway speed. Then I have to drive another 1/2 hour to get home... total driving time = 1 hour, and my car behaves normally after that. Otherwise, if I just drive around town, it runs poorly for a lonnnng time.

I have a 92 RS with 3.1 in it and I have Had this Problem before, but i think i figured it out. Most 3.1s 91-92 got a digital egr valve and in my opinion is mounted rather poorly. The problem is the egr lets a lot of carbon in right behind the throttle body and carbon builds up on the back of the throttle blade and bore so what I have to do is clean the throttle body about every month or so and remove the IAC and clean the housing on it when you reinstall the IAC make shure that the pintle is 1 and 1/8 of an inch from the mounting surface to the end of the pintle. Make shure that everything is perfect with the IAC after all it has a lot to do with the idle.
Hope this helps ya out
