Goodbye winter hello racing season!

I can't wait to get back to the track and get my car sorted out. 4k stall torque converter on the way from TCI w/ antiballoon plate & lockup at a reasonable $500 . Just need to have the crank pilot machined down. Hooked the nitrous back up w/ a 100 shot nozzle, put in some lcarbs and fixed the header I cracked over a speedbump. Oops. Reweighed it after the rack & pinion install and I'm at 2800lbs race weight. That iron behemoth steering box weighed more than I thought, took 20lbs off the front! Pretty soon I'll get that + a little more back when the turbos go on. Sending the turbo headers out to be coated next week. I told myself I wouldn't put a transbrake in but this thing is snowballing. I should probably wait till the anticipation wears off before I take out a loan lol.

Yup, I'm only a couple hours of wrenching away from driving mine around. First race looks like June though... Should have blown a 3500 and replaced it by that time though.

Re: Goodbye winter hello racing season!

i just need to see if theres a closer track to me then vegas, driving 260 miles to the track with the 3.0 kinda worries me cause im sure im going to be breaking alot of parts this year, mainly u joints and rear ends, hopefully transmissions wont prove to be a problem for me like they have in the past.

but if all goes well with my new iroc, i should have the firebird ready to rock by the end of april with the 3.0 motor

Where are you in utah? You should bring your car down to bandimere so we can race! After I replace the flexplate I just trashed yesterday...

thats from google maps so i dont know.
i dont get it either
but hell it did take me dam near 4 hours to make the 300 something mile trip when i went to northen utah to go look at the camaro and firebird i bought, but i also did get stuck in massive traffic in salt lake city but the speed limit the majority of the way was 80 so if it wasnt for the traffic in slc i woulda got there much faster

New flexplate, poly motor mounts & subframe connectors arrived. Now if only I had a nice torq converter to go with it. Stupid backorder.

700r4 trans????

well ill be racing soon but it wont be with the v6,, project fireturd v3.0 has been put on hold, im really blowing my budget on the iroc,
what was going to be a 5-600 hp build has turned into a 1,000 hp capable build it went from cheap chinnesse twin turbos and headers to a sbc 400 with a garrett t6 flange 76 mm turbo which i can upgrade to 81/86/ or 91 mm down the road, the dam turbo change didnt kill my budget its the new fuel system i need to support he new turbo that is lmao.

hopefully within the next week or so i can get the turbo iin and get the car sent out for paint, if i still have any of my budget left then ill drop the 3.0 turbo motor into the bird

Re: Goodbye winter hello racing season!

Yes 700R4. I was reading over what would need to be done for a transbrake and I'm definately reconsidering. Especially since I'm lusting over ctsv brakes now! I'm bored with LS1 stuff, which I never thought were spectacular anyway. This car is going to be feaking ridiculous before long. Good luck with the fireturd 3.0 when (if?) you get back on it. I think the problem is those iron heads haha. I saw on your other thread that you found out that block was actually a 400. Lucky eh?

dont do a transbrake with the 700r4 it will not last, thats why most companies dont even make them anymore.

tci sells an off the shelf 3k stall converter thats a bolt in for the v6,thats what i bought and had restalled,u prolly wouldnt of had to wait if u got that one and u wouldnt of had to turn down the crank piliot either .

if u really want a transbrake look into a 2004r swap, they sell a manual trans brake for that trans thats very cheap, it works by putting the gear selector into 1st,with the gear lever in first the trans brake is on, u upshift to second to launch, most grand national guys use this trans brake

iirc u can pick one up like 50 bucks or so
200 also has a better gear selection for a turbo motor over the 700

yeah cant complain about an extra 50 cubes lol few guys have pointed out to me that run very smilar combos that it wouldnt take much to get 1,000 hp out of it

project fireturd 3.0 will deffintaly get done, if i run out of money after the iroc it really wont matter, besides some odds and ends i dont need money except for body work and paint on the firebird really,so worst comes to worst the driveline goes in,and ill have to wait on body/paint work

Re: Goodbye winter hello racing season!

Yep, thanks. Just waiting on your $40 then I'll send your ecm & stuff.

I like the TH700's 1st gear. Some people think it's too much to get traction with an all out motor and the 1-2 gear spread is too big, but it works out for me because I don't hit 2nd until the end of the track and I don't make enough torq (yet) off the line for it to be a problem. Things will change soon though. I looked at that converter and decided my money would be better spent on a 4k converter that has all the goodies that one doesn't at the same price, even though I have to wait. I'm headed to the track this wednsday regardless.

Re: Goodbye winter hello racing season!

once u have the turbo the steep first gear will hurt spoolup, the car will actually 60 better with less 1st gear.but liek u said for now it wont hurt anything

with my car i was into second gear within 40 ft of launching 40ft/1.4ish seconds
