who knows what each wire is coming off the fuse block connector?

 

Cheapest help is the Chiltons books.
Several easy to use pics thru out the book.
What's the problem?
When I swapped my 2.8->3.4, most of the wires and such, fell back into place, from where I removed it.
I only identified the 6 fuel injectors like one would do changing plug wires

well, im doing a six to 8 swap, my 305 is in, but the connectors are different at the fuse block, so I need to know what is what on the six harness

 

Hit the wrecking yards for your desired harness.
That may be the easiest and most reliable way to go.
Second choice is to send me an address and I can xerox some pages from HLEMS book & MOTOR electronics book for a 1985 Firebird example.
You can also buy the harness, too.
How about going to a local GM dealer and seeing if one of them would let you borrow the HELMS book for your car, and xerox what you need? Give him a six pack or lunch.
