Suspension upgrades to a 91 V6 Firebird

I have a 1991 3.1 Firebird and I want to upgrade the suspension. I am looking at putting either Eibach or Hotchkis springs on it. However, I have only been able to find them for the V8's. These will work, but I am not sure if they will lower the car properly since a V8 is heavier than the V6.

My question is: Has anyone installed a set of performance lowering springs on a V6 Firebird, and if so, what kind did they use and how do they like them.

Any other suspension mod information would be helpful.

I was looking thruogh a rice burner magazine and NOPI sells lowering springs for 3rd gen V6 F-bodies. They are about the same price as the V8 springs. I think the web site is nopi.com but not 100% posative. Hope this helps.

First off, welcome to the boards. I've heard eiback makes a set of V6 specific thirdgen springs, but you'd have to check. Don't forget about your shocks and struts while you're under there. Also, as long as you're dropping your back axle anyway, why not feed a Dynomax cat-back underneath?

Isn't it great how you can justify a lot more mods? Good luck with the springs.

I helped a friend install the Eibach springs on a 1990 Z-28. Went in pretty easy, as they are shorter (thicker spring coil wire) than the origial installed in car springs.
It lowered that V-8 car, slightly.
Check as suggested for the specific application.
Try this place, too, real inexpensive-

Northern Auto Parts.
For sway bars, if you're by CA, I'll bet my friend has the sway bars off that 1990 Z-28 for sale. Or hit ANY wrecking yard, sway bars are real cheap! Buy new shocks, like Bilsteins.
My Z99/F41 optioned Firebird actually has a thicker front sway bar, than that Z. We measured it. My V-6 car is 2mm thicker.
How expensive are these 3rd gen springs?
I paid $55 for special springs for my 1974 Corvette and about the same for the old 1967 & 68 Camaro I have.

These are the next mods that I am considering:

http://sethirdgen.org/lca.htm

Well, I won't do this last one because I'm cheap, but you might want to

http://sethirdgen.org/lcabracketinstall.htm

Hopefully I can do these this summer when the weather is better and I can spend some time at the junkyard. I'd like to hear if anyone is able to put a strut tower brace on the V6, I don't think I've seen one before.

Thanks for the quick response on the springs. I was wondering if anyone has had any experience with the Nopi springs? I wonder if they handle as well as Eibach or Hotchkis.

My camaro handles very well and I didn't put performance springs in. What I did was I got the anti-sway bars out of an 89' IROC and put them in my 91 RS V6. They are sweet. I then replaced the air shocks with KYB gas shocks all around. My body roll is all but gone. It makes the car much more fun to drive and at little cost. I didn't want to put springs in to lower the car as it is low enough already. I scrape enough as it is.
