Lots of V6 mods needed. HELP!!!!!! Dont know where to start
hello guys ive got a lot of questions. ive got a 87 2.8 and its bone stock. What is the max horsepower put out of a 2.8? If i had a set up 2.8 could it run with 305's and 350's? I want to get my v6 as fast and as ball z as i can. but i want to keep the v6. It needs a tune up. but what would you guys do if you were in my shoes. you have a few hundred bux to spend and a stock 2.8. what would you guys do first.I want to put a shirt kit in my auto trany. i want flowmaster and headers but ive only seen i kind of performance headers for a 2.8. im tihnking about a 75hp shot of NOS. is this a good idea. If i was to re-build the rear end what gear ratio should i put in.?? ive got loads more questions but i think you had enough for now. help me please

I think the 2.8's came of the lot w/135 hp, give or take i suppose depending on the year. I dunno about keeping up w/305's & > unless its a mustang POS. the only thing we've got on f-bodys w/305,stock, is taller rear end. Which is only works well till like 40-45 mph, at least when i raced a '90 305 TA. Ive heard people not recomending NOS untill way late in your project because there should be other things that come first, so ill pass that along... The first thing I did to my 2.8 was a flomaster muffler and cat and i noticed a big differnce. And it sounds cool too!! You also may want to think about a computer chip, helps, and performance ingnition (Coil rotor, cap, IM, wires) I also took off the AIR pump pully and got a shorter belt(one less thing for the engine to turn) I have a 5-speed so i cant recomend anything about a shift kit. Im sure some one can... Have fun with it which ever way you decide to go

I got my muffler and cat from a performance shop here in phx caled Lopers, not sure if there are any in belchertown, but i would imagine there are similare shops by you. Summit has a lot of cool parts too. A lot of parts arent listed in the catolog so you might want to call if you cant find what your looking for. Not quite sure about headers. I think I saw a post a few days ago about where to find those. Its always good to have K&N filters in the air box. Ive also taken out the splash gards and made some holes in the box as to let the motor suck air easier (dont have to worry too much about water puddles in Phoenix). Some day i hope to have the inside of the plenum borred out. There is also a cool mod to make ram air on the Tech page on this site. Ive also heard that removing the screen that covers the font and back of the MAF sensor can increase air flow, but i havent tried it yet..
Doing it all over I would start with:
K&N Drop in Filters and cut the bottoms out of the air box, then disconect the TB coolant lines, add redline watter wetter, a complete tune up and fuel filter, accel 8.8MM wires.... Call that DAY 1.. Should cost no more than 100 bucks... I would then get the Dynomax catback and a high flow converter. The sound and gain is nice.. I would follow it up with pulleys, MSD Coil, MSD 6A ignition box, and a fastchip form ed wright and 160 thermostat. Next I would look into a posi, and some 4.10's a higher stall converter and shift kit.. Then NOS, only 75HP for the engine until I rebuild it and add forged pistons and crane 2030 cam and 1.52 roller tip rockers... Afterh the pistons I would jump up to 90HP of NOS and some nice cylinder head work.....
