Timming Question

I've read alot of the post here but couldn't find this question.
After I set the timming on my 1991 3.1V6 to 10*BTDC I shut the engine off, Hooked the timming set wire up and fired the engine up. Checked the timming again and now it shows way BTDC. Car runs right, good power. Disconected wire again and timming still at 10*BTDC. I know the computer adjust the timming so is this normal?

Re: Timming Question

Yep its normal the whole reason you disconnect the EST wire is so the ECM doesn't control the timing.

Re: Timming Question

I don't know stock specs for timing on a V6 car, but 10 sounds aweful high for base timing on a computer controlled car.

Re: Timming Question

Oh, OK - my bad then. I had a TBI 305 car, base on it was Zero according to spec, and some of us bump that up to around 4 maybe sometimes. I have no knowledge on the V6 cars, but as you can see I troll alot through the entire TGO board reading and learning.
