friend installed the 40 series flowmaste muffler(gotta read this)

the car is a 92' v6 w/ stock catalytic converter which has about 130,000 miles on it. Theres this V shape cut on his 2 1/2 inch pipe(covered up with a metal can and metal straps). Anyway he installed the 40 series flowmaster muffler(3 inch single inlet,3 inch single outlet)(pipes enter and exit in middle of muffler)and installed the stock single 2 1/2 inch outlet pipe. The car sounds so gay its not even funny. If u put your ear next to the outlet it sound pretty deep but once u rev it a little it sounds so gay. Even when ur driving and floor it, it sounds as if he had the stock muffler on. What gives should he install a 3 inch single outlet pipe. He doesnt want dual(this is for the mean time). What can make the muffler take it to the advantage. Oh yeah dont even bother saying"bro its a v6 what do u expect" just curious.

oh flowmaster makes those 3 inch mandrel bend outlet pipe do u think he should install that and get rid of the 2 1/2 outlet pipe. Will it make a difference in the noise of the muffler (louder or annoying).

I don't know anything about the single in/single out stuff. My muffler is different, it's the crossflow style. I don't know if that makes a big difference, but I like the way my car sounds and so does everyone else.

I don't really know about the single either. I would say maybe try a bigger I-pipe and at least a new tail pipe. Mandrel bent would make a difference I would think. I'm not sure, when I got my flowmaster, I got new pipes to go w/ it. I'm gonna get a bigger I-pipe and high flow cat also.

well first of all define the sound other than using your word-of-the-day. is it high pitched, hollow, what? and i'll probably get flamed for sayin this, but a v6 aint gonna sound like a stock car. it doens't flow anywhere near enough air to need a 3 inch flowmaster. i think the muffler is too big myself. a 6 cylinder doesn't even pump enough air to fill that thing up, that is probably y it sounds "gay"

ok it sounds like a high pitched anoying import but he cut out the outlet and runs just the little 3 inch pipe from muffler sounds a little better though. Not really the real flowmaster sound.

He's got the wrong series on there... if he wants to stick wid flowmaster, he's gotta get an 80 or 60 series atleast. They're much deeper and dont sound ricy.. although i prefer dynomax for the v6, get an 80 series if u're lookin for deep mellow tone. have fun! payce.

I agree he needs the 80 series. That is what I have on my Firebird & it made a world of difference compared to the stock muffler. It gives any car a deeper tone in the exhaust note.
