WE HAVE SPARKS!!! (now help with the rest...)

OK, my buddy who has my poor car in his driveway was messing around, and he's got massive spark from the coil, and said he got spark from one plug wire, but not another. He's only had time to check 2 so far. Do all the symptoms before (rapid deterioration over 48-72 hours) sound consistent with possibly just a worn out cap? It's about 2 years old (yeahyeah, sorry, I apologize, was too busy with school last spring, so I skipped the yearly tune up). So what do you guys think?

Start it at night time and see what happens, under NO lights.
You MAY see the answer.
A 2 year old cap isn't that bad.
Could be bad plug wires, too!

umm, ok, that was a little too cryptic, and, BTW, starting is the problem, more specifically, it doesn't. If I do crank it at night, what am I looking for?
