Base Horsepower?
Base Horsepower?
i'm sure this question has been asked before but my lazy @$$ doesnt feel like searchin for it, but whats the base hp for the '91 3.1's? i think i remember seeing people put things between 150-170, i thought they had about 190. Is there a formula to figure it out, one of my friends said you take Xx60, X being the liter size of your engine, so 3.1x60 which would be about 186hp??? i dont know if i trust him or not.

my buddy has a '96 V6 manual camaro with the 3.8 i think and the only mods he has on his car is a SLP cold air intake and a flowmaster muffler and with all my mods i can beat him off the line or at least keep up with him nose to nose off the line untill he hits about third, and i have an automatic, and if the 3.1 has 140hp vs. the 200hp the 3.8 has how is that possible?
Three wild arsed guesses:
1) Different gear ratios. We have 3.73's. No idea what 4th gen's have.
2) Your car is tuned better.
3) He is a crappy driver. Let me drive the 96 and I'll beat you.
He's probably scared to rev it too high.

He's probably scared to rev it too high. welp, rule out #1 because his 91 has 3.23 gears(auto). the 96 should be 3.42 being a stick.
#2: a possibility, but really, how poorly could a 5 year old car run.
#3: ding,ding,ding...i think we have a winner.
