91 3.1 project
Hi everyone. I am new to this forum, but have found it to be very helpful. Just thought I would post up a vid of the car. So far I have added; CAI, 160* thermostat, bypassed coolant lines to throttle body, bypassed egr, and put a flowmaster 44 series muffler.

Re: 91 3.1 project
I was also curious as to whether or not a fender from an 84 will work for a 91.

Re: 91 3.1 project
The fender should work. The front facia holes might not mount up correctly and the front chin GFX might need to be redrilled or something. Dont quote me on that though. The fender itself is the same design though.

Re: 91 3.1 project
Where is it leaking from? Most of the time your gonna have to just replace the whole weather stripping. If you specified or got a pic I might be able to help a bit more.

Hmm, well I notice the water coming in above the driver side rear seat, on the plastic trim piece. (back seat was soaked this morning, lol) I will go take a picture now.

Yea Im thinking your gonna need new weather stripping there. Well it comes in one piece and wraps around the whole hatch area. But if it was leaking in the rear where mines was I fixed it with a bit of silicon cause the rubber jsut came off a bit.

If the car is a T-top, it's not the hatch but the roof seals that are leaking. If it's a hard top, then you will want to look at the outside where that screw is and make sure it's not coming through the sheet metal on the hatch edge which will also cause a leak.

Re: 91 3.1 project
Basically? The weatherstripping isn't exactly glued and sealed to the body the way it's supposed to be. As a result, water gets in the corners at the t-bar and rusts a lot of stuff underneath. Then you factor in age, and you're probably looking at new weatherstripping at a cost of about $400 if you do it yourself, plus whatever sheet metal work is necessary up there (if any... Mine leaked like crazy but the only rust was on the t-bar which has been replaced). Check for gaps between the ends of the top strips and the body strips and adjust as necessary. Also adjust the installed height of the tops if needed. And also put in sealant around the roof strips if necessary.
Definitely check that screw out first, though. If there's that many washers on it on the interior side (looks like 2), then it may have come through the outside, leading to a leak.
:edit: Check the Body section for more info...

Thanks, looked it up, that weather stripping is damn expensive. Headers or weatherstripping, headers or weatherstripping.... I could always clean out the garage, lol.

Yeah weatherstripping is oddly expensive, especially for t-tops cars

Re: 91 3.1 project
Dang T-Tops, they are awesome when they are off haha. Had to take down the headliner, it was rotted to hell. Metal headliner for now, lol. Don't know what I'm gonna do with that yet. Oh and thanks for tellin me to look at the body section Mav, I've only really been on the v6 board. Good thing you told me about that tho, I found out about a gas tank recall, gonna go to Chevy and have that checked out this week. I suppose I should be checkin out the other parts of the site...

Re: 91 3.1 project
Honestly the headliner is useless anyways, theres hardly any surface area it covers, and at $100+ for a new one that will eventually fall off also, I'd rather just leave it off, lol, not like you ever see the thing anyways.

Re: 91 3.1 project
If your headliner is falling apart but the fiberglass is still in good shape and one peice you can try to recover it. Ive done miens with great success. I just ripped off the old liner and sprayed some 3M adhesive glue. THen I covered in foam and sprayed another layer for the actual liner material. Its been fine for 2 years now. I also plan on redoing it soona s I want black interior now.
