Should I buy this car?
Should I buy this car? The car is a 1992 Camaro with a automatic 3.1 V6. The car has a new battery and alternator. No t-tops. The paint is peeling a little. The interior is desent. And the car is 1,500$. The only thing I'm worried about is the mileage. It has around 150,000 miles on it. I was worried because 150,000 is alot, especially on a V6. It is running ok. Is this a good buy or shall I look elsewhere. Can someone give me tips for what I should for when looking at a V6 with that many miles on it.
PLEASEEEEEEEEEEEE HELP.

Personally, I would look for a car that has less miles. But it is your money and your decision. I have a 92 3.1 auto with 65,000 miles on it and it runs great.

Offer 800 cash.... Can't hurt, but I would wait... Depends on how much you have to spend and what ou want... I would rather spend 1500 more and get a lower mileaged IROC, or spend 6000 more and get a 1994 LT1 Z28....
If I could do it over again, I wouldn't get an auto. Stick is way more fun. Also, that is a lot of miles. My 87 only has about 100k.
Have you had it inspected and gone through the whole process yet? If not, I'd be worried about the condition of the engine. Get some compression numbers before you don anything.

Mileage isn't the main thing; it's how the engine was treated. Run a compression test, that'll give you a good idea of how well the pistons are sealing. (Mine has 213,000 miles and is still going strong!) But yeah, $1500 seems high for the mileage. Pull the "new front tire" trick!
Third gen f-bodies wear down the outside edge of the front tires. That's the design of the suspension- but not many people know that. Check out the tires, say "oh man, and I'd need to get a $60 alignment, and probably new tires." See if that helps drop the price!

A lot of GM engines lose power dramatically over about 100k. A friend of mine has the same engine as I do and my 3.8 will smoke the tires but his is dog-slow (I have 30k and he has 100k). If the body is good, buy it for a swap car. Start looking for a decently priced 3.4 and you could have a pretty cool ride for $2500-3000. Then thow on one of those new vortech sc's and you are talking!

Well, if it were my money I would have it in my yard right now. Its a 1992, As long as the motor was looked after, it should be an alright car. By the way, I have never heard of a 2.8 or 3.1 going before 200,000 miles. (Except for on this board, I never heard of one going usually the car is shot first)
But I would go up with 1300 Cash, he might just take it...then maybe get the 3.4 as someone said, it would be one sweet car....

(1) 150K is alot of miles and would scare me too (although I bought one with 110K)
(2) I'd be more concerned about the rest of the car (water pump, shocks, exhaust, brakes, undercarriage rust, ect.)
(3) For the northeast part of the country, $1500 is CHEAP. Most of the '91-'92s around here are about $5000 for a V6 and $7000 for a V8.
