2.8 Timing woes...

Today I reset the timing on my 2.8 to 12 degrees. I then took the bird out and did two 0-60 runs. Both were over 15 seconds. Needless to say, I wasn't very happy. This thing had ZERO torque. Could the engine have started knocking as a result of the bumped timing and the computer is now dropping timing to compensate? Would resetting the ECM have any effect on the problem? TIA

I know when I did my first timing chain swap, I had the old block. It was worn.
But, the new chain made it live!
But for power, I cranked the timing off the reading (about 20 or so).
Putting it at stock, sucked big time. So back I went to the higher number.
It didn't ping, it died, as I drove up a hill, without the bottom water hose attached!
That's why I did the 3.4 swap.
I also checked timing by timing, proper way. Then I said, screw this and did by ear & driving.
The result was the same higher timing was the answer.
IT COULD also be a bad MAS, as that controls timing, too! Atleast it did with my 1985 Bird
