89 Turbo Trans AM, operation put back together under way...

To anyone who migh have been paying attention to what I have been talking about for about the last month I now have the car in my posession. It was delivered on the roll back this weekend and I got started on a few things.
I am taking pictures and notes to keep a dirary of the whole process. I will be posting pics of the progress as it happens. It will be slow because I am at college during the week and can only work on the car during the weekend.

So for my first update:
Clean all the parts out of the car and took stock of what I had and what I need. Looks like all I need to have the car back together is Head light frames, parking light assemblies, and Fog light assemblies.(The car had been hit in the front end). After that its all a mater of re-installing and lining it all up. Then to the motor which has not been started for 2 1/2 years. Then Inspection by the Highway PAtrol and I am driving it on the road. Hopefully by July.

I will be posting pictures from time to time as I get them available.

Since I have the car apart right now, its a good time to ask me questions about what it underneath the front end and wiring in the doors etc.

Kyle, just if you haven't figured out...Although your TTA IS a third gen V6 doesn't mean we can be as helpful for you as you might think. We are mainly 2.8L and 3.1L V6 related. If I were you I would take a trip to http://www.li.net/~rsalerno/ttahome.htm http://www.turbobuicks.com/ and http://turbobuick.com/ I really think those places will give you alot more help than the V6 board will.

The great thing about your project is that it's a 3rd gen.
Any parts will cooperate, as long as they match what you're after.
The block is a Buick V-6, around since 1962.
the rest of the block is nothing more than a turbo set up, used since the late 70's, refined in the 80's with more computer assit and fuel injection.
Stick around, love to read the challenges.
Look in any Hot Rod/Car Craft ad section for the people into the Turbo 3.8 blocks.

Actually its a V6 its a Thirdgen so now I belong here. The car only has around 43,000 miles on it so I don't think that I will need that much help on it until I start Modifying it, that is if I do. The rest of the car is still a thirdgen. Thirdgen.org is the best site I ever found for the thirdgens regardless of what one it is.
I have been to the buick sites, but since Im not into tearing the motor apart, I don't need anything from them yet. The TTA sites basically just list mods, not how to do them, or just history and specs, which i know anyways.

My point in the post is to allow everyone to know how I am saving one if not the best Thirdgen cars ever produced from just rotting in a junk yard. Also seeing as the car is open to inspection more now than most cars are usually I figure I can better answer questions or get pictures for people of the wires on mounting hole locations.

I will be posting every now and then to update this, probably every monday as I am away from the car during the week while I am at School

I will never leave here and forget you guy. "I love you guys" especially Monkie.

Now My black one just left today and now I have money to finish the Turbo!!!!
Now off to modify my sig!

Well the only problem I am having now is installing the wing. I am not sure how to get it to line up in the clips and how you lock it down into them. It would appear you slide it into them and they just hold it down. Then put the bolts in the back? Is this right?

Hmm, Kyle F as a productive member of the V6 board, and me helping him....surely a sign of the mimllenium...ahem, anyway...

As far as I understand, you've got it pegged. The wing just slides onto the clip thingies, and the you bolt down the rear. Might want to consider a fiberglass wing from GTAuto though, as long as you're dropping money into it.

Yes I know, but do you need two people to do it? I tried to do it this weekend, but the dam thing would not line up in all the holes at once. It sucked, plus If I could get onside in the right place and get ready to slide it in the other one was all wacked out.

86 Trans Am w/ built 355TPI with SLP goodies and too much other stuff to List. One sweet *** car, wish I would have had a good enough Job to pay insurance on three cars so I could keep it, but for a 89 Turbo Trans Am w/ Low miles, I think I made the right choice!

Anyone I've heard talk about the glass wing, sounded like a one person job. The foam is floppier though, so get your woman to help.

Yea I am seriously considering the Wing from GTAuto, but I just wish it came painted. $425 is expensive, plus paint.

I know you're going to laugh Kyle, but one of my gfx pieces were missing in the front, and I didn't get it until after my paint job, so I bought some spray paint. It actually still doesn't look half bad, and no one's noticed it. I'm sure it woulda looked better if I would have clear coated it too, but I didn't bother. You could probably spray paint it till you can afford a better paint job. I believe they even make automotive quality spray paint that you can pick up at some places. It's just like the stuff they spray on your car, but in bottles.

On the topic of spray paint.. yes, they make automotive grade spray paint.. primarily Duplicolor. And yes, it is some pretty good stuff if you take your time with it. My entire car has a spray paint job on it. Why does it look so crappy? Well first, I'm still learning how to paint (automotive painting is a very very very tedious process).. and second, I'm still in the process of clearcoating and finishing everything.. Automotivie grade spray paint can look like a professional job if you do it right. I'll have pics as proof within a couple months.

That I don't know, but its the same as I had on the '86 T/A so I would guess that the Irocs might have them.
