anyone ever rebuild an ac compressor?

I put some leak detector in my system and red dye came squirting out of the compressor. I'm gonna try and fix it myself and I was wondering if anyone had any tips.

I haven't heard of it, but I'm sure it's possible! Where was the leak coming from?

I'll help ya with the decison.
IF it's outta the back, it's rubber seal.
IF it's outta the FRONT, go get another!
The front is the bearing seal. Swap it.
HOW DID YOU GET LEAK DETECTOR?
HOW DID YOU USE IT?
I'm dying to save $35 per car to test my AC system!
Most leaks are worn o-rings. MOST. IF you car was NOT in an accident, nor hose & others played with, that's all it will be.
The front is bearings & clutches & such. BEYOND your human effort. Human effort is swapping, better effort!
How to get compressor cheap is to call businesses IN THE BUSINESS YELLOW PAGES. Look to those places for lowest prices! let your fingers do the walking!

I bought the leak detector at wal-mart. It's just a bottle of pressurized red dye. You put it in your sytem like you would put in a can of refrigerant. It travels the system till it finds a leak then it shoots red dye all over your engine.

Oh the leak was out of the back I used a little RTV and so far it's holding up. I'll keep my fingers crossed.

If that's the case, you should be able to get that seal from many different sources in your area.
Phone around and ask or just drive in.
Leak detector is common, cool.
I gotta do brakes & oil Thurs or Fri I'll ask at the same time. I got my seals for an AC repair from a AC place. He gave them to me!
