is it possible to... ?
place those fake/true duals under our car like the vettes have. Where we run a Y pipe from the motor to cat, and a y pipe from the cat that goes over the axel, and into two mufflers. just curious. I'll probably ask a performance mechanic too, but i was wondering from anyone who has already asked, found out, or done it. thanx.
I have done exactly what you want to do
But its on a 4th gen, (but I suspect the rear area is unchanged since 3rd gen)
I previously had a SLP 3" resonator catback (no muffler) but since I did headers and OR ypipe it got WAY too loud. So I installed a pair of Ractive mufflers to quiet the things down. One on each tailpipes.
BTW The SLP catback already had a Y pipe at the rear to split between the two tailpipes.

well my car already has the single in dual outlet muffler, i was just wondering if i could jam the exaust setup that's under the vette. Now, if i decided not to not do the mufflers in the back and just ran two resonators say, directly next to the driveshaft, would that be able to work. I know a shop over here, that'll put the resonators on, but would there be enough room, and would it hit the ground every time i went over a bump? plus. Is it illeagle to run simply resonators? the guy at the shop had recomended resonators, when i was trying to decide my dual setups.

The legality depends on noise ordinances; that's all.
I saw a setup like that in a junkyard once... I drew a picture of it.. I'll have to hunt it up. I crawled under the car to get the right rear exhaust hanger and got the shock of my life! I never saw such a thing. The I-pipe split into a Y somewhere before the rear axle. It went to the center of the rear of the car, where there were TWO tiny mufflers. They were mounted left-to-right, just like our normal stock mufflers are. They were so small that the width of both mufflers was maybe an inch or three wider than our stock mufflers. Anyway, the split-I-pipes went somehow to the middle of these two. Then the tailpipes came out the side of each muffler, one on the left from the left muffler, and one on the right from the right muffler. Both mufflers were coupled somehow together in the center... I gotta find that picture.
It was odd, but I had to wonder if it was a performance improvement over a large-piped single-in dual-out muffler. The pipes used on the setup I saw were small... might've been smaller than 2 inches diameter.

I wouldn't suggest & here's why.
Weight, extra weight.
No true gain HP
Stick with the large single pipe, back to the 1 in, two out mufflers. It's in your favor. These newer cars do not have the under body room as the old 60's-70's cars.
If it's mickey moused, it's a waste of time & money.
I kinda did your idea on my S-10 Blazer, but LOTS of room under there.
I got one pipe back, to one in, two out flowmaster & pipes out, one each side. Looks proper.
