what do you think
im not sure where to post this, ive looked for a discussion section or something but there is none.
so saturday im about to go pick up a 1990 rs v6 115k automatic for 900 for the most part everything in the engine is factory is that good or bad? hes original owner, and he said its been garaged for the past 5 years and drivin a couple times a year. the bad is it needs a paint job theres some rust and theres dents in both doors (not sure how bad cant really see in the pics) and i was just looking for input about the car and the way these cars hold up engine wise and if its a good buy for a DD?

its a decent price if its not it too bad of shape, youd really have to know more about it and look at the extent of the body damage

Re: what do you think
I have a 89 RS and it has a V6 in it. It runs great! Just rolled over 50 thousand miles.
The only problems with these cars sitting, is the fuel pump could go out because bad gas, oil should be changed before driving, all fluids for that matter. Plugs, wires, cap. Flush radiator, Transmission. Which you can do all this your self. Put some seafoam in once you get the bad gas out, when you feel up. The car should run great after all this. My concern would be rust. A lot of times you know it has rust because you can see it. But check all floor panels, doors and under it. Good luck! I love my 89!

Re: what do you think
Yes if the car runs, fill it up with gas, Oil change is a fast and easy job. Don't by it buy the quart, buy one of the big jugs, they have 5 or 6 quarts in them, I use 5-30 GTX. But your oil cap should tell you what to put in it.Then all you need is your oil filter. Does it seem to run good? whats the oil look like? How about the radiator liquid? You just don't want all that bad stuff running through your motor if you can avoid it. If you gat a chance post a picture up so we can have a look. Oh is it a 2.8 or 3.1 motor V6?

A '90 should come with a 3.1, the best stock V6 the 3rd gen saw...
I've found they make OK daily drivers IF you have a backup car. Mine's needed a good amount of work to make it reliable (fuel pump, injectors, alternator, tensioner pulley, ignition module, in addition to all the regualr tune up stuff. If your Ok with the probability of spending at least a few hundred more than you paid for it, you'll be good.

Re: what do you think
door dents arent a big deal, its easy to put on new doors that dont have dents, specially since the car will need paint.
my main concerns would be how does it run, and how bad is the rust, and is the floor rotted out.
check the spare tire well on the passenger side, remove the carpet fro the bottom and see if its rotted out, thats one main place that rots out on the car.
crawl under the car and check the floor for rust some rust is ok and if the car isnt bad it will just be surface rust, if u see rust push against it with ur fingers carefully and make sure u cant push ur fingers threw it. i suggest wearing gloves
from the looks of it in the pictures id offer the guys 8-900 cash if it checks out

he said the only rust is the bat box a small amount in the wheel wells
ill just have to wait till sat to check those things out and see how it runs if the engine sounds healthy im going to get it
my brother picked up a 1980 camaro berleanta? something like that with the v8 even tho the engine is rusted it still runs pretty good and idk why but he paid 1000 for that, b

Re: what do you think
Do it. Figure $200 for the "TomP tune up" (search, its worth it), then another $300 for random crap that might be worn like brake pads. Sounds like a good deal.
Re: what do you think
that doesnt sound that bad,, dents and little rust i dont care about, as long as the engine and tranny is in good shape thats all that matters.
another thing the cars blue but lets say i repaint it like flat black would that decrease the value since its not original

Re: what do you think
You're going to paint the car with a plastic coating?
A bad paintjob will reduce the value, and probably your enjoyment, of the car. ie not painthign the door jambs or using a cheap paint. So whatever you do make sure to do a good job that wont need constant upkeep or a total re-do in 2 years.

Heres a thought... You are paying $900 for a car, I wouldn't be so worried about it's value. I would be more worried about how bad *** its gonna look with a new paint job glistening in the sun.

Re: what do you think
if youll notice the three little stars next to bad i tried to write a naughty word, which i shouldnt have, but the phrase in which I am referring to does not mean bad, what I meant to say was how sweet its gonna look
Re: what do you think
gotcha its not going to be clear coated its going to be a flat color considering my cash budget plastidip and you have your self a nice paintjob for about 100
Re: what do you think
No offense but I wouldn't plastidip the car especially if it has existing rust. Reason being your just covering it up making it that much easier for it to spread. Depeding on how bad it is wet sanding and clear coat go a long way. Especially is you got a steady hand and know how to spray paint. Just curious where you from I see your a dsm fanatic and a friend of mine just recently crashed his eclipse

Re: what do you think
If the base coat is solid clear coat it man im telling you wont regret it. Is it comes out bad wet sand it and throw another coat of clear. And like I said you best take care of the rust if you put that stuff on there. Good luck to you man what ever you choose to do this is the best forum for the 60 degree v6. Soon as you get it your guna want more power I sunset looking at the sticky on this forum lots of good mode.
