Whenever I go to take off in my car it spits and sputters for a little before it actually takes off, also when it downshifts while I'm driving it will do it sometimes. It only does this after I have driven about 5 miles, when it hasn't been running long its fine. I changed the fuel filter and it seemed to fix the problem. But a few days later it started again. I have an 86 Firebird with a 2.8L MPFI. Any help would be great.

 

I'm thinking your timing is probably off...

I have almost the same problem. When my engine is warm and I get on it hard from a stop, it'll bog down and knock (detonation??) just for a split second then be just fine and take off. Timing?? Or do I just need to run a higher octane?
