92 Firebird 3.1
The first thing you should do is a full tune-up, mods are useless unless your car is running in tip-top shape.
K&N is a start, check out this site for some free mods like cold air induction, after that go for a Walker/Dynomax cat-back system and the more expensive stuff like porting and polishing heads and a cam.
Cold air and K&N will give you 10-12 HP. A high flow converter and muffler will give you at least 10(and a kick *** sound).
Also, look around at other peoples signatures to see what they have done to thier cars...
(my HP guessing was never good, so I could be off, someone wanna back up my figures, I think they're on the low side.)

1985 Camaro SC - 2.8L, auto.
Mods:
Removed air baffles, mandrel bent cat-back pipes (but stock replacment muffler, Dynomax Turbo and Catco converter are on thier way)

PLAN ON A TIMING CHAIN if your milage is over 75,000 miles.
Once you get a good strong foundation, then go add mods.
BUT, if you have NOT changed the chain, your effort will be kinda wasted, as the engine timing ACCURACY will be off.
As much as a pain in the butt that chain is, it really can wake up the engine, too!!
