My first project car! Help!
My first project car! Help!
I am finally starting to restore the exterior of my Camaro and I need some advice from people who know more about these things that I do <G>.
I am working on an 1987 EFX FI 2.8 Camaro (hey, I thought I'd start with an easy one!) I have never seen another camaro with the decal package that this one has. The body color is black with silver EFX decaling on the hood and sides. Is this decal package something special that I should try to conserve or replace? Or can I go ahead, take a heat gun to them and let the VIN number say what the car is?
I decided to start with this car because the motor and transmission are in wonderful shape (original factory on both). The body was in great shape until some idiot in a pickup forgot to use his mirrors and backed into the rear quarter panel. I am working that out now and should be ready for repainting within the next week or two.
Thanks
Karyn

God, I haven't seen that name/place in over 20 years. I went to American U. Say Hi to U of M for me! Maryland girls....trouble
This EFX package is (for me) unknown. Sounds like it was a local dealer package.
Koons is Ford, who was the big Maryland GM dealer.
Know what ya can do?
There has to be a custom sign shop local.
I mean they make vinyl graphics. Just like what ya see in Fast Food Resturants signs.
Sounds like the car drives, look in the phone book for signs-vinyl. Drive by them & ask if they can replicate the design for ya.
It will not be cheap!
But, if ya want to keep it (vinyl design) bad enough, that's one way to do that.
The VIN wil only tell ya several things.
What plant the car was made at (Norwood or Van Nuys)
IF the car is a V-6 or V-8
What serial number the car is (in the whole body car build line like 12,343 of 35,986 cars made that year).
The VIN will not tell ya what ya have (Trans Am or Camaro Z-28) That is decide by the trim tag or the build sheet if ya locate it. May be on the console/glove box lid or the back area where the spare tire is.
OR you may even find the birth certificate. I found mine under the driver side rear seat cushion.
Happy cruising!
Wave to all those wonderful Maryland Staties for me! I contributed enough to their retirement fund.
How do they make their money now that the speed limit is 65MPH again?

Hi Ken..trust me, the staties are still making money around here even with the 65 mph speed limit. Now everyone does 80 <G>.
We did check with a custom graphics place that has been here for several years..the guy who looked at it said it didn't look like anything they had done because the graphics are too extensive. I am waiting on my dad to email me pics of this car when he gets home this evening so I can show everyone exactly what I am looking at.
We have found out a few strange things about my baby..in looking for the passenger side spoiler piece, we took one from another 2.8 Camaro "donor body." Doesn't match. The one that matches it was off a RS body. Also, the front spoiler I removed from it was about 6 inches wide, almost on the ground, instead of the 3 to 4 inch wide front spoilers we are finding on the 2.8 bodies.
I'll look for that body tag that you described. This car doesn't have a glove box, but a center seat console. Hopefully, that will give me a clue where to look next. So far, it has been fun finding out part of the history of this car, even though I don't have anything definate yet.
As soon as I get the pics, I'll post them so you can see what I am talking about.
Thanks
Karyn (who lives in Maryland, but is actually from Tennessee..<G>)

Give this a try.
Look at Motion Performance, Long Island NY.
Could very well be an "aftermarket" "Dealer Installed" item package, to increase floor appeal & sale price appeal.
I forgot the Chevy Dealer, Oursman Chevy.
Do the Maryland Staties still radar out of the back of 18 Wheelers & cars (non-descript) parked on the side of the freeway/road?
THAT WAS THEIR FAVORITE TRICK BACK IN THE 70's.
