Anyone ever check out

I posted this abit ago but with all the talk of the 3.4 conversion and how much hp can i get ect ect....

There are ad's for the bmw movies lately, i saw one of the ads on TV and was curious to see what bmw was doing so i checked out there website and they list the perfomance in 0 to 60 and 1/4 mile times along with weights of the cars. I also tend to really listen to the rated advertised hp of v6 cars on the tv to see what they are doing to V6's in the 3.X sixes. Anyways you all might want to goto the bmw site - i think you would be very happy/surprised. If memory serves me correctly they are pushing cars that weigh 3200 to 3600 pounds into the 6's (0 to 60) on engines equal to and smaller then a 3.1L. there cars have 50/50 weight distribution, there hp ratings are 225 with 225 to 235 in torque. Not sure what gears they are using but i do know they are all wheel drive. I got a chance to play with a bmw on the highway with my T/A afew weeks ago and it was actually quite surprising how fast they will take off. It would have eaten my 91 firebird. To get 225hp/235tq outta a GM 3.1L is do-able, do not let the V8 guys tell you otherwise, a 91 firebird weighs in at about 3221 lbs, we do not have 50/50 weight distribution but we are damn close, all wheel drive? not sure that has anything to do with going fast litterally, it does have everything to do with traction and handling tho. I would imagine that the guy with the 3.4L, if he did it right is making atleast 180 to 200hp with 185 to 200 in torque and can spit the 0 to 60 out in atleast the 7's to 8's. add posi and some gears and i bet he would be in the 6's to 7's. Take someone that builds a 3.4L on a stand - add 9.5 to 10.0 compression, a good cam, done heads and such and you will make 225+ hp easy and nail the 6's, add nos and i bet my bottom dollar ya run with stock Z's and 5.0's. Hp sells cars, our little engine's problem is the torque, which as we all know gets the car to the finish line first.

Um BMWs are RWD, they can come with inline 6s not v6s, and have DOHC, dual overhead cams.

Just to add to that, the bimmers are certainly optimized for performance in a way that far exceeds what GM set out to do when using the V6/60 for production vehicles. You can make a 3.4L perform like the import V6s, but you have to take them apart and put them back together in a different manner, so to speak. They wouldn't dare increase the performance capabilities of this motor and stuff it between the fenders of z24 Cavalier, now would they? This is what I hate about those 'decision makers' at GM that give the final say as to what the buyer should/should not get in performance options. GM can't make up it's mind when they create something and stick to it to refine it's features. And when they finally do have something thats appealing and with some potential, (see 3.4L DOHC) they drop the product entirely. Another good example is the z24 Cavalier. What happened to the 3.1? They dropped the v6 for a 2.5L whiny iron-duke.

If i am not mistaken they also come in AWD too. As far as the inlines and DOHC, yes you are correct BUT the point is look at the HP and weight figures. We can make the same hp, we weigh in the same if not less. BMW's sport peaky engines and they love to rev. The GM 60 degree block is born from racing and living in the 6 to 8K rpm. Fiero road racers get 270+ reliable horses with 235 to 250ft/tq. GM got 275hp in a DOHC 3.4L but it was scraped do to "not having a tranny that could hold the power" BS!!!!! they didn't want the FWD cars out selling the "muscle cars" for 1000's of dollars less. <---- IMHO BTW.... hehehe
