gear ratio

what is our stock gear ratio....and where can you look to perhaps see if you rear end ratio is not stock.

Not stock, look at the back gear cover. You may notice some goo oozing out from cover from a rebuild.
Stock may be a 3:23.
My 1985 is a stock 3:42, non-posi, DRAT!
Love the gears, hate the peg leg burnouts

1990-1992 Automatics got 3.23's.
1990-1992 5 speeds got 3.42's.
198?-1989 all got 3.42's.

It's messy, but you can pull off the rear cover & count the teeth of the ring gear & pinion gear, then divide 'em. Might be a good idea anyway, your rear fluid's probably never been changed.

If you luck out, there's a 3-digit code stamped on the FRONT of the passenger side axle tube. The Haynes manual lists some of the codes in it; that code will tell you the rear gear, and if you have a posi or not. The code #'s hard to see, you'll need a wire brush & wet rag to pick up on it.
