3.1L block bored 1mm over, forged pre 67 350 rods with the pin sized down to except the custom 9.7:1 pistons. Stock reground crank
Custom cam - this was ordered from crane - i do not have the specs anylonger however i can see if i still have the card. 19# injectors, 1.6 roller rockers, GM After market 60 degree heads with a light port on the intake and heavy work in the exhuast. Reworked TB, Custom chip that was dyno tuned. 2200 rpm stall convertor, Holley fuel management system, MSD ignition system and coil. Under drive crank pully, 3:42 gears on a tight limited slip diff, tranny was redone to shift hard. Dyno max exhuast, Custom Y-pipe. Direct air taken from under the nose clip and feed via 3 inch ducting tube to a K@N filter. And the magic lil engine booster.... 90 HP shot of NOS - dry system - progressive. The car resides in Texas - DFW area. The engine is here too but not in the car. I sold it to a guy with a 92 bird, and bought a trans am. The original engine was lightly modded and put back into the car, The tranny and gears were retained in the 91 as well... the car is up for sale. There were lots of other things and tuning done to the car. The time was pulled on beltline rd here in the DFW area on a G-tech, i want to say the car was doing 14.9 without nos. The dyno tune stated the engine was making 283hp at the rear wheels on 90 shot NOS i gave the slips and paperwork to the guy that bought the car to prove the engine.
Little side note and after thought on this too. Don't let anyone tell ya that you can not make power out of these little mills. I fought the urge to just drop a 350 into it and be over with it, for the money i spent and time it would have been cheaper. Fiero racers are getting 270+ hp in there 2.8L engines- these shops and racers are your friends when it comes to building these blocks. On the other hand thier downfall is 235 to 245 N/A that seems about the limit. But in a 3200 to 3400 pound car that still gets em moving - fast. Also we noticed something on the dyno. When these little engines get hit with NOS they skyrocket in horsepower, then come back down, its almost like a surge of power - comparable to a V8 - it seems to last about 2 to 3 seconds, then acts the way it "should" with the shot you are using. I see you live in my neck of the woods, this car was used on beltline in the irving area, i still take her out from time to time cruising - altho i am selling her. Trying to get a old maverick/comet 2 door with a V8 as the next - play toy. Lemme know if ya start to do a build, will be happy to help turn wrenchs and talk shop
