ignition problem?

Ok, the past few months, my car has been running like a dream, but maybe 2 weeks ago, it started having a harder time starting. And sometimes it wouldn't start at all. I'd turn the key, and the engine would make no effort to start. The dash lights would just come on, but the engine did nothing. What do you think the problem is? i'm hoping the engine has nothing to do with it, because i was planning on replacing the ignition anyway, but what do you think? Sorry for the vague description of the problem

Sounds like the VATS system's acting up... that's the Vehicle Anti-Theft System, and it runs off the resistor chip in your ignition key. Two things usually happen; the chip's contacts wear out, or, the "fingers" in the ignition switch wear out. I believe there's an article in thirdgen.org's tech section that talks about this, or you could search the message boards. Look for "VATS Bypass".
