I'm back on the road! (Should I try the track again? Hell yeah!)
Yep, it was the fuel pump... Friday, I put my pressure gauge back on- and apparently I was very tired on Wed night. I thought the gauge was showing 33-35 PSI- it was really showing 23-25 PSI! I'm surprised the car was running at all!
So, Friday & Saturday, I replaced the fuel pump. Total work time was about 15 hours. This time, I didn't re-use the pulsator, or buy a new one. In place of the pulsator, I used the piece of high pressure hose included with the pump. The pulsators are there to "quiet" the pump, and they don't use clamps. They use a wide o-ring, which can leak. I notice the pump sounds a bit louder as it primes (before I crank the engine), but otherwise, I don't notice it. And I feel much better knowing that I don't have to worry about the thing leaking.. I didn't know about it 4 years ago when I did my first fuel pump.
Luckily I got the pump for free; the Borg-Warner P39 pump I bought in '97 was a lifetime warranty unit. Lets see how long this one lasts!
The car feels much stronger now; and it doesn't ping as much when I'm crusing with light throttle and climbing a slight hill. I think I need to get to the track again soon...! I also managed to take some fill-in pictures of the job... all I had of the '97 job was the car raised in the air. Now I've taken some pics of the tank itself, the fuel pump/sending unit, and a pic of the eliminated pulsator.

Thanks, guys! It'll be interesting to see what happens, that's for sure. Odd thing too, my car smells really rich (or lean).. I wonder if I uncovered another loose spot, or if it's just engine age. Maybe I've got a bad vaccum hose somewhere... I've been eyeing up those fuel vapor canistor hoses, they look pretty beat. I think I'll replace them with regular fuel line; GM probably wants a fortune for 'em.
