How often should I clean my K&N's???

I put them in at 77,300 and now have 92,800...is it time? I took the baffles out of the airbox, so there is certainly a slight glaze of dirt over much of the filter surface, but I read somewhere that a slight amount of dirt actually helps filtration and flow...is this true?

you should clean them pretty often, especially if you got gutted air boxes. Dirt leads straight to the filters rather than being clogged up by the baffles. Whenever I clean my filters, the intake regains is swhooshing noise, and thats only after about 4k miles. Also depends what conditions you drive in.

On my cars with cold air induction (like my Wife's 1968 Camaro with straight six) I have to clean it real often.
Dirt impedes air flow.
Use Simple Green to soak clean, rinse with cold water, shake to get rid of water, let dry in sun, spray with K & N oil stuff for usage.
I have stopped using the K & N for CLEANING the filters. Simple green works very well and it way more useful for other things, too. So, to me, it's more value cost.

Simple Green, eh?? I didn't know this was safe...I have a ton of it!! You've used this stuff for awhile with good results??

As for gutting the airboxes, I haven't yet, but I do want to! I have removed the baffles however, and did notice a sharp increase in the amount of dirt on the filters...
