A sad day for the bird

well. That's right, i lost...lost a race, it's a sad...sad...sad night.

My friend and i decided to run the two cars, he drives a beefed up 79 Lincoln Cont. Mark V collectors series. He's done about anything he could to this motor, besides pulling it, and having head work done. We tried to install headers, but unfortuantely we couldn't get the things to fit, this after hours and hours of removing exaust pipes, and manifolds, and every aftermarket piece on the motor, carb, manifold, radiator, waterpump, is all hi-po, plus all emessions have been removed, and the AC, electric fan was isntalled, etc. etc.

Well, my mildly modded 2.8L was no match. the .040 bore over, slight milling of the heads, and only 12k miles, along with the vette servo, and shift kit on a tranny that has only about 3000k miles on it, still couldn't pull off a victory.

ON the contrary the road was bumpy, and he was counting down, we'll try again, on another date, maybe tomarrow, on a freshly repaved road named hog hollow, that is 1.5 miles of straight ahead into the missouri river valey, whoa-nelly. This time, maybe we'll let someone flag us to start, instead of him counting down. Something else that didn't help was that he was already moving by the time i released the brake on both runs. And the last time we went, i beat him by nearly 3 cars. So now i'm on a power trip, if i can't beat him in the bird as it is, i've gotta do that less than a grand turbo setup.

So then, i was checking out my engine bay and i'm trying to decide, should i remove the AC and place the turbo there, or in the front by the radiator. It doesn't look like we have as much room on the sides of the motor as that 510 did, what would you guys think...

buy a v8.. just kidding.. well if u don't mind the A\C i would say that would be a good place, but then again, theres ALOT of room by the radiator, well either way u choose it, keep us up to date if u decide to put one on. also, do u have any sites with info on turbo\S.C. installations on 2.8?

I'm going to put the tubo in front of the motor, more room to work with. Did the lincoln have the 460 in it?
to quote the chilton big book '79 460:
4bb 210hp @4200 357lb/ft @2200.

next time you race, remind him it's just a ford, show him current gas prices, and if you get him of the line...slightly nudge into his path, he'll slow down

no the lincoln has a 400, which is rated at like 150hp and 315lbs/ft. tq. I would think that the open exaust he's running, gutted cats, and the new intake manifold, 4bbl. carb, and open element filter would make up for most of that, placing him at say 170-180hp, then he removed AC, and plugged every emessions hole on the block. I'm about to go change my o2 sensor, car wasn't running well anyway, maybe that'll help me too.

Wow, 3 million miles on the tranny.. must be a sturdy one... sorry I couldn't resist... I would say put the turbo on... I'd turbocharge mine if I had the money...
