FRONT-END/STEERING LINKAGE ???NEED REPLIES ASAP!

Problem: My car gets the bad shakes 60mph plus.
so... today I took it to get the tires rebalanced and they were fine. Then the guy showed me that when the steering wheel is held straight (on a lift) you can wobble the front wheels around. He said I could have a problem with a steering part. The real problem is that I leave for a 2 hour drive to college on saturday 8/18 so I need this fixed A.S.A.P!!! How do I diagnose it? Can I fix it? How much $$ should I expect to dish out???

I checked it out and everything moves from the balljoint studs(?)down. This is where the inner tierods connect to the idler arm and pitman arm. What needs replaceing? Can I do it? How much mula?

really?
For the parts, kinda little.
As low as maybe $15 to $100+ for some.
Then the labor, + alignment.
Could be loose bearings.
Who has worked on it?
Has it ever been done?

Shaking/shimmying at crusing speeds (and not being tire balance) sounds alot like a bad center link. That is the part that the inner tie rods, idler & pitman arm connect to. And, if your going to replace that, you might as well rebuild the front end since the other parts attatch to it.

Yep, the center link and the idler arm are common "wear" items- meaning, they wear out on our cars. I had mine changed out a few years ago, and wow, what a difference...
