thinking about buying a trashed out early 80's thirdgen...

......and making a street/strip car out of it. I;ve been seeing some really trashed out early 80s camaros with V8's going for as low as a grand. I think one of these cars would be fun to srip out, get a maaco paint job, and throw that 350 roller motor out at my grandpa's house in. I;d leave the motor carbed and hot rod the hell out of it! You know those cars that cant idle and cruise at 3000 rpm's at 60 mph because of the high gears? Thats what this thing would be like, LOL! Anyway, just an idea I;ve been toying with.

Car: 1986 Firebird
Engine: 2.8 V6
Transmission: 700R4
That would definately be cool; even better, because you wouldn't have to restore the inside. You wouldn't have to dig up original seats, or buy new carpet, or look for dash panels. You could put racing seats in, skip the carpet, tear down the headliner, make your own dash panel, etc...

Of course I'd be the idiot who would want to restore it, and turn a "fun car" into a NOS-scrounging nightmare!

I had a chance a couple of weeks ago to buy a 1982 Camaro 305, t-tops and i think it had like 90,000 miles on it. The guy said the only real problem with it was one of the brakes stuck a little bit. He wanted $600 for it. Of course at the time I didnt have the $$$ so I couldnt jump at it. I really wish I could have, that would have been awesome.
