mpfi v6 acceleration problems

I have a 1986 sport coupe v6 and when i turn and put into second and accelerate the car pauses makes a knocking or clicking noise and then after the pause it accelerates. It happens in 3rd as well. I have recently done the transmission, radiator, clutch, belts and hoses, and am thinking it could be spark plugs because they have never been done. any ideas?

Re: mpfi v6 acceleration problems

Do a full tune up (plugs, wires, filters, PCV valve, all fluids, distributor cap and rotor) and then let us know what happens.

You sure its not just low on gas? these cars have an annoying habbit of cutting out on turns even on like an 1/8th a tank.

Did it do any of this before you 'did' anything to it?

Re: mpfi v6 acceleration problems

Personally, (I did so anyways), I'd just bite the bullet and squeeze out the cash for the full tune up. There really isn't anything to be specific about until you can be sure that most of the tune up parts and disposable components have been replaced (plugs, wires, cap and rotor). You can't be sure of how old the parts are unless you replaced them yourself, so it's a good idea to get new parts before trying to fix a problem that may not exist with new parts. If it still runs like junk after the tune up, then you have a problem, but at least you know it's not caused by a bad plug or wire or something.

Either way, pull a spark plug. Plugs are the best indicator of how the engine is running.

Re: mpfi v6 acceleration problems

Put half a tank in it and see if it still cuts out on you. If it feels slower it probably just needs a tuneup.

Re: mpfi v6 acceleration problems

lol. Yeah cars pretty much like to have gas.
I did hear that someone somewhere made a fuel pump for our cars that would kinda move with the g-force of the car to avoid fuel starvation. I wish I could find one.

Re: mpfi v6 acceleration problems

^ you put a sweeping pick up tube like you can do for the oil pick up, it will move with the movement of the fluid.

Re: mpfi v6 acceleration problems

Damnit why didn't I think of that? Having a blonde moment.
Now next time my wife wants to go shopping, I have the excuse, no...I gotta drop the gas tank and put a sweeping pickup on the fuel pump. ( I already told her I needed to replace the chrome-reversed muffler bearings to avoid going to my anger management meeting )
