how to test MAF burnoff?

my friends 89 2.8L is giving him a code for the MAF sensor, and it suddenly one day just stopped working for NO reason right after his ignition modual went out, replaced it and the MAF doesn't work, so im thinking that maybe it could be the Burnoff (?) relay? is there anyway to test it or be for sure? cause his car runs really good for a MAF not working, doesn't stall, still has good power, only thing it does is when he lets of the gas the idle goes way down almost imediatly, but other then that there is no problem, any ideas of how to check this? thanks guys.

The relays almost never go bad. Did your freind try to reset the computer? Is he still getting MAF code?
