fuel pump?

I have this feeling that i need a new fuel pump. The car was running great for a couple of weeks and then all of a sudden i found a huge power loss. The car doesnt seem to be getting the gas. I listened for the fuel pump when i turn the key on and it sounds ok, but then again im not sure what it should sound like. How would i know if its the fuel pump? ? Thanks guys.

Chris

I hear the zzzz sound when i turn the key on. But i read that if your fuel pump is going it'll sound sick or somethin. and im not really sure if it does or not. it sounds ok, but i dont know.

well a fuel pressure guage would do wonders. We do have a pressure nipple to hook up to on the fuel rail. Other then that when you floor it does the cars surge then stuble then recover when you let off?. If so the your pressure is fluxuating at the very least. Have you ever run outta gas with this car? If so if its acting like that then yes its the pump.

Definatly get the gauge; even if your pump turns out okay, it's a very useful diag tool. I've used the thing plenty of times just to say "well, okay, it's not my fuel system!"

The first time my pump died, it went from a healthy & strong "hummmm" to a weak "gurgle-buzz". I remember thinking "Man, I hope the pump's okay!" Two days later I was riding shotgun in a flatbed tow truck...

The second time my pump died, it got really LOUD. It sounded like I had a few pissed off bumblebees in the trunk.

I bought my Sunpro fuel pressure gauge from Pep Boys for $40. Make sure the one you get goes up to like 80 PSI... they also sell one for carbureted cars that is low pressure (and cheaper).
