problems with 2.8L Won't idle, weird SES light
I've got a strange problem with a 1987 2.8L v-6, the check engine light blinks in a very weird pattern, just by turing the key to the 'on' position. It will sometimes idle nicely, then immediately run poorly and won't idle, but will stay running if you open the throttle. I'm going to check the fuel filter, and it looks like all of the sensors have been replaced. Anyone with a similar problem?
thanks.
thanks.
Follow every vacuum hose you see.
You will see you solution. Use 5/16" vacuum hose for the majority of the cracks. Use 1/4" if you can, but, most likey, it's only 5/16" and that size is large enough.
Use 1/2" vacuum hose on the fitting on the back by the base of the distributor.
Just follow you hands on a COOL ENGINE!!
PS, any hard plastic hose you touch will likey crack, just break clean and patch up with the 5/16" hose.
When I did my swap, I spent a whole day doing that.
Recently cured two major expensive items (MAS & EGR) replacements by new 5/16" vacuum hose. After you do your patch job, disconnect the battery and let it sit for 10 minutes, then start and drive it.
You should be good.

Hmmm...a vaccum leak is the likely culprit then?.....I'll start looking at that as soon as possible. It certainly sounds like that could be, the girl we bought the car from said it used to drive great, then it started to fail, so that makes sense. Thanks for the Info!

Look at your IAC, it may be getting slugish. Thats what happen to me, when I checked mine it fell apart in my hands. Everytime I had my A/C on the car would die because the engine couldn't get enough air, but if you gave it some RPM or if you where driving with the butterfly open, NO problem till you got of the gas and it would stall.
