need some serious advice

I'm not sure if it has been posted or not...sorry if it has...but here's my problem...
I have a 1990 Chevy Lumina, 3.1 V6.
156,000
When driving the car, there is a "rotten" smell....Also while stopped at a stop light or sign..the car vibrates and while accelerating from the stop position, it vibrates "harder". I was told it was probably a converter problem but i just got it replaced 2 days ago...any suggestions...

The rotten smell definitely sounds characteristic of a converter problem, or a lack of a converter. I'd see if the thing is on right... A friend of mine doesn't have the converter and the best way I can describe the smell is...a rotten smell, smells a little like well water (eggs). I'd get that sucker looked at..as far as the shaking and crap goes, I'm not sure about that, all I know is mine does it like crazy.

I recall my rotten egg smell from the convertor on my new 1975 Vega.
Sounds like a new convertor smell that may go away.
The shaking?
Try looking at motormounts.
Perhaps they upset something by installing the convertor.
Take it back to the muffler shop and ask them for a look see.

My bother-in-law had a problem with his '95 S-10 4.3l that sounds like what you've got. Shaking, rotten smell, poor performance, it was found that the EGR valve was bad. Drive your car at night for a few miles, then look under at the cat. converter. If it's glowing, then you've probably got an EGR problem. The newer GM vehicles seem to have alot of EGR problems for some reason.HTH
