Read some old posts, question about cams...

Next Spring when I graduate, the RS is either getting the engine rebuilt for some more power, or its getting a V8. I am not really sure which path to take. I'd like to keep the car as original as possible, which means keeping the 6, BUT I am sick of knowing the minivan next to me can take me if they want to!!

So, here's what I need to know...

1) Did anyone ever figure out if the 2030 cam is smog legal? This is a MUST for me...
2) How much would a good rebuild (cam, roller rockers, full bottom end rebuild, distributor, ported/polished heads, intake, etc) cost me, including labor to have a shop take the engine out and reinstall it?
3) How much for extras? Exhaust, cat, Accel 300+ box, any other enhancements I may need/want...
4) If I do all the exhaust, ignition upgrades along with the internal upgrades, what kind of power will this make??
5) And finally, has anyone ever heard or seen a car with all this done? What does it run like? More importantly, am I gonna get like 10 MPG with the cam and all that????

I know there's a lot here, but I really am curious about this stuff, and I'm sure others here may have the same questions. So help!

Don't ya hate it when no one replies 2 your posts!!!!

Anyways i'll try and help, but i'm not an expert in the cam field.

1. Yes it is smog legal

2. I have no idea....but it's probably gonna be expensive!!

3. Those extras shouldn't cost you very much.

Dynomax catback = $150
Highflow cat = $75
Accell 8mm wires, coil, cap and rotor = $100

4. Anywhere from 15-60 HP...I'm guessing!! HP increases all depend on the running condition of your engine before these mods. If your car wasn't in perfect running condition before these mods, then they probably won't help out much!!

5. Yes I have seen cars like this...and they usually run high 15's or low 16's. And the mpg's are usually around 16-20 MPG

I hope some of that was usefull

Some of this info might now be completely correct....but atleast I tried.

If anybody else could correct me on some of this info...or if somebody could help him out more than I did. Feel free 2 post!!!!!

Good luck on your mods....I have they work out nicely for you!!!!

Workin on the motor would be a great thing and could drop you into the mid 15's if everything is workin in harmony. But dont forget to beef up what your car is rolling on. Stock suspension for v6's arent very good. give it good springs and shocks and all the other suspension goodies that come with it.

Whether it gets a 305 or a built V6, the entire mechanicals of the car will be gone through. Bilstein shocks/struts, new steering components, new springs, (brakes are brand new now), new paint (even though its very shiny, several small nicks), carpet, etc...

AND to top it all off?? My favorite rims and tires...245/50/ZR16 Firestone Firehawk SZ50s on American Racing Torq Thrust IIs (the polished one)...$1,500 worth of wheels and tires, but picture a straight, clean grey RS with those wheels...EVIL!

Any other thoughts??
