Code 33 and 34 please help
Code 33 and 34 please help
I have an 87 firebird 2.8. I with both codes 33& 34 I checked the maf sensor and found the resistor pad burnt up. What would cause this? Does it have two relays? If so where are they?

Only one relay, right next to it...
Replace it with a GM sensor or you're going to be sorry and out a lot of money in a year.

Re: Code 33 and 34 please help
I've had 2 aftermarket NEW MAF sensors on my car. Neither one was built the way the GM sensor was (I have a Bird... There is a plastic elbow on the inlet end of the sensor that connects it to the air filter can, and both sensors' elbows were too small to go over the can duct properly and broke upon installation), and both failed within a year and a half of installation. The store didn't want to take the first under warranty (lifetime), and I knew they weren't going to take the second, so I bit the bullet and bought an OEM MAF. There is a small funnel behind the inlet screen that directs air over the hot film in the GM MAF, and this was missing on BOTH replacements. The second one even had the film right at the inlet edge of the circuit board (as opposed to the middle of the board), and the film ended up getting bent up like a skate ramp due to the air flowing over it, causing a code 33 (in the end, mostly caused a code 45 due to overreporting the incoming airflow).
If you replaced the sensor and are still getting the low output code 34, first make sure there is power to the sensor connector (black wire with a red stripe, IIRC, or it's orange) with the key on and engine off. If not, the relay by the radiator support needs to be replaced.
