'92 Camaro RS w/ 3.1L V6.. worth buying?
'92 Camaro RS w/ 3.1L V6.. worth buying?
I have a Chevy S-10 with a four banger right now, and I hate the thing b/c I can't do anything more with the engine at 208HP. I'm looking at a '92 Camaro RS with the V6 and I'm thinking about buying it. What kind of potentional under the hood does it have? I don't care about the V8, so don't tell me about the V8 please. I'm interested in running this car on 1/4 mile strips regurarly, and I need to know if it has upgrade potentional and how far it can go. I appreciate any information, thanks.

Well if yuou want to go fast, I dobt there is any Naturally aspirated V6 on here that it going to go faster than your 208 hp 4cyl S-10.
I hate to break it to you, but most people on here did not buy their V6 for drag strip use. They are moslty for the fun of having a sprty car that is decently quick and has Killer looks and sex apeal.
The fastest V6 I have seen on here has been in the low 15's. Well excluding some of the Turbo 3.8 owners that pop up around here from time to time.
Ther are not a lot of speed parts available for the V6 thirdgens and most of the performance parts are left to the owners to create on their own. Leaves a lot of room for self pride, but not for great times at the track.
My advice is to keep your S-10, if it really has 208hp, and buy a V6 F-body to cruize in.

Thanks for the valuable information. By the way, even though my truck has that horsepower, the gears are not a great ratio for acceleration, so that combined with weight kills my 1/4 mile times. I'm looking at turbocharging a v6 camaro, or possibly supercharging. My S-10 has high horsepower, but b/c of the gear ratios, it gets higher top end. But since it has a governor that can't be disabled yet, it's useless. So I smoke stock four bangers, but I can't do much else. =( Unfortunately, it is "all bark and no bite". =P I love the Camaro RS looks, and I've always been a bigger fan of V6's than V8's, so I think this is the right car for me. Thanks again for the info, I really appreciate it.

Hey man,
I own a 92 RS with the 3.1 and love to drive it. It is a great ride... but like he said it isn't a speed demon. BUT I think there are plenty of mods that you can do to the car that will make it go, as long as you have the money.
If you want to get a V6 then get the Camaro. Lots of mods, lots of looks, lots of fun!

Well, I've done my homework on the web, and it looks like mods and performance parts for the 3.1 are in short supply, but that may change at any time, so I can be patient. I've found parts for the infamous 2.2L four cylinder GM engine, which is next to impossible, so this is just another challenge. I love the car, and I'm glad I bought it even if it never kills at the track. I'm really impressed by the support and comraderie of the F-Body forum and F-Body owners here, and I think I've found a great group of people. Thanks for the help guys, I appreciate it alot.
